LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY
Loma Linda University is actually a giant campus of graduate (after Bachelor
degree) programs, such as medical school, dental school, PA school, pharmacy
school, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and 200 other programs. All of these programs are for MS, MD, and PhD
degrees, except for a few such as nursing, physical therapy, etc. The also offer
MS and PhD in nursing there as well.
LLU has just announced that they are opening an undergraduate program for
Biology. That means that you can transfer there from any Community College and
get your Bachelor Degree in Biology (Environmental Science) there. The tuition for those two years is
about $15,000, but those who do this are in a better position to improve their
application to LLU's medical school or any of the other graduate programs there that
require a Bachelor's in Biology. It is a good way to circumvent the competition
for these grad programs.
The BS in Environmental Science (equivalent to a BS in Biology) is a new program and not many people know about it yet, so it
is easy to get accepted after you complete your Community College Classes. Note
that the actual name of the degree is a BS in Environmental Science; however,
the classes are the same as pre-med and will transfer as such to Medical School.

Environmental Science degree.
For those of you who might be interested in being a teacher like me, at the
moment their MS in Biology and their PhD in Biology programs are probably the only
ones in the world that have NO TUITION. It is the only place I know of
where you can go to get a free graduate degree! These programs are free right
now because
of donations that provide the students with tuition waivers. As long as the
donations continue to come in, there is no tuition for the graduate Biology
students. Not only that, all the grad students in the Biology and Geology
Departments get paid about $800 a month because they all sign
up for Federal Work
Study for the research you have to do anyway as part of your program (called a
Research Assistantship). Click here for a Flyer on the MS/PhD in Biology degree.
With a MS in Biology, you can teach K-12 or Community College, and with a PhD in
Biology, you can teach University level biological sciences classes. The nice
thing about teaching is that you have off work three months in the summer, about
a month in the winter, and a week for Spring break, plus all National holidays.
You can take off one semester every few years and get paid for it (called a paid
sabbatical) and you can take off a semester without pay every few years. If you
teach at a government-owned school (such as Saddleback or Cal State) instead of
a private one (such as USC or Irvine University), then you also get government
benefits, such as being able to work for only 20 years and then retire with
about 50% of your income, or work 30 years and retire with about 75% of your
income, or 40 years and retire with about 90% of your income (unless that
changes over time).
Also, you might think that a PhD in Biology would be hard, but it is actually
very easy (although there is lots of reading and writing). It is much easier
than medical school. LLU is on the quarter system instead of the semester
system, so you only take 9 units per quarter and focus on your research project
in the summer (although you get your $800 a month Research Assistantship pay all
year round).
LLU also offers MS and PhD programs in Geology, through the Biology Department
(actually called Earth and Biological Sciences Department). With a degree in
Geology you can make a lot of money working for the Oil Companies. Tuition is
also free as long as the tuition waivers from private donations continue to come
in, and Research Assistantships are also available.

in Geology degree.
If you may be interested in earning a BS in Environmental Sciences to improve your chances to getting into any of LLU's Graduate programs, visit their website at http://environmentalsciences.llu.edu . Here you will find lots of information about the program and opportunities in the Environmental Sciences field, as well as links to other information about Loma Linda in general. The program is very much like a BS in Biology, in that it prepares you for all sorts of career opportunities in the health care industry, except with the ENVS major you would be focusing more on environmental issues and research.
If you have any questions about our ENVS program or would like to meet a Loma Linda someday please contact Ricky Escobar

Note: You do not have to have all the prerequisites done before you start at LLU. You can get started in your program and work on your prerequisite classes, as long as you have them finished by the time you want to graduate.
Best wishes for a successful career!
